Opened one year ago, the Maison de Solenn in Paris’s 14th arrondissement (district) serves teenagers in needwith the support of the Foundation, which held exhibition and set up workshops.
Innovative in both form and content, the Maison de Solenn provides teens with a different type of medical care because it is specifically geared toward their needs.Capable of taking a holistic, individualized approach to treating teens, Maison de Solenn is likely the top facility in a large national network. A key factor in its treatment technique is ‘cultural therapy’:“When you dance, you take care of yourself!” says Rufo.Cultural therapy helps improve morale and mental health: you feel better when you have a desire to learn.”
Convinced by this approach, the Foundation made a commitment to support Rufo’s work. It financed the creation of a media library, for which it provides resources, including books donated by Hachette Livre. It also initiated the exhibition on manga, a world of increasing fascination to young people in France."Manga offer a coded language, an expression of adolescence,” notes Rufo. “You can’t imagine how much such an exhibit eases our work,” adds Marcel Rufo,
This exhibition was inaugurated by Bernadette Chirac, on 31 May. Also in attendance were Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, a well-known journalist and author, and his brother Olivier, also a prominent writer.
Conceived by Virginia and Mathieu Ducros, winners of the 2005 Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation Bookseller grant, and designed by Tugdual Le Goff and Camille Gabarra, was open to the public all summer 06.
The exhibition was at place of honour at the Comédie du Livre wich took place from June,1st to June, 7th in Montpellier. The exhibition is now welcomed at the Chateau de Fumel's galleries in Fumel.
The Jean-Luc Lagardere also initiated a tennis table workshop led by Jean-Philippe Gatien and the coordinators of Ping Attitude. Theay animated a session each week at Maison de Solenn. This activity is run in the spirit of the cultural support approach developed by the professor Marcel Rufo
