The Cinéma Pour Tous association (Cinema for everybody) created by Isabelle Giordano was originally set up to organize regular screenings for underprivileged audiences in the suburbs and in Paris. The aim is to bring cinema to districts where culture is not always present. Through these programs, the association endeavors above all to use images to broadcast values and concepts that can be found at the heart of the problems that affect society.
Based on its experience, the association is extending its scope to cover sports thanks to the support provided by the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation.
The Foundation and the Cinéma Pour Tous association have joined forces in order to offer young people in these districts a new “sports and cinema” program. There are plans to screen films based on sports in Paris and in the suburbs followed by discussions in the presence of high level sports personalities from Lagardère Paris Racing or TeamLagardère. These discussions will provide an opportunity for developing creativity and expression in young people and also for familiarizing them with some of the fundamental values of sport.
This partnership was made official on Friday 27th June 2008 at the Senate when Laurent Cantet’s film “Entre les Murs” was given its premiere. Awarded the Palme d’Or in Cannes, this film has been produced and distributed by Haut et Court, a company founded by Carole Scotta, winner of the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation award.
Halfway between fiction and documentary, Entre les Murs will be released for general public viewing on the 24th September 2008: at last, cinema that shows French society as it really is.
